Design Philosophy

Ready to Support

I'm Salma, a multi-disciplinary designer and illustrator with an intention-driven design approach that reflects authenticity and storytelling to address complex challenges. While drawn to all disciplines of design, my interests especially reside in visual communication, interaction design and illustration. At the heart of my practice is a focus on curating empathetic, human-centered experiences that transform how we engage, perceive and understand the world around us.

Currently, I'm a fourth-year undergraduate student completing an Honours Bachelor of Design at York University. My creative endeavours are fuelled by inspiration through nature, storytelling and reflection. Apart from designing, I enjoy partaking in various interactive artistic outlets as a means of continuously enriching my knowledge and curating innovative approaches to my work. These days, I've been quite keen on learning about the Art of Illumination and Biomorphic Patterns.

Intentionality
For a project to successfully bloom and flourish, seeds of meaning and purpose must be carefully tended to and planted.
Collaboration
Whilst the seeds have been planted, the growth is dependent on a variety of external elements whose collaborative efforts are crucial to prosperity.
Growth
To grow means to be in a state of continuous evolution and motion. There's always room for new approaches, refinements and change as opposed to stagnancy.

With cross-disciplinary experience including my role as a Graphic Designer at York University, my technical skills extend beyond Adobe CC applications such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and After Effects. These days, I have ventured into 3D modeling with Blender and continue to utilize Figma for all my designer needs, merging tools to tackle projects with creativity and efficiency.
